Transport Between Sections

Transport makes it possible to hike the Lycian Way in separate sections and adjust your plan along the way. A point-to-point route starts and finishes in different places, so arrange the return journey in advance. Otherwise, after a long day you may have to find a vehicle where both reception and traffic are already scarce.

Intercity Buses

Intercity buses connect larger towns and district centers; the main hubs are Fethiye, Kaş, Kumluca, Kemer, and Antalya. Buying tickets for long-distance services in advance is convenient, especially during holidays. After arriving at the bus station, you will need a connection to the village. Part of the hiking day passes while you wait for local transport.

Dolmuşes

Local minibuses run between towns, villages, and beaches. Their frequency changes with the season and day of the week. If you rely on an old timetable, the last service may leave before you return from the trail. Ask the driver, your guesthouse, or the bus station about the schedule on the day of travel. Use that information to set the time for leaving the trail and walking to the stop.

Keep the name of the stop you need in Turkish, together with a map pin. This makes it easier for the driver to understand where you want to get off. Payment is often accepted in cash. Wait beside the road in a safe, visible place away from narrow bends.

Taxis and Private Transfers

A transfer to a remote trailhead can often save an entire day. Agree in advance on the price, meeting point, number of passengers, luggage, and waiting time. Save the driver’s number on paper. Reception may disappear in a mountain valley just when you need it for the return. An exact meeting time is therefore more reliable than a last-minute call.

Boats

In the Kaş, Limanağzı, and Kekova areas, a boat can form part of the route. Services depend on the weather and season. Confirm the return departure and conditions for carrying a backpack in advance. If the wind cancels the service, you will need an overland alternative plan or an extra night. Settle this before descending on foot to the bay where you expect to board.

Point-to-Point Hikes

When the start and finish differ, leaving a car at one end is convenient only if you have arranged the return. Otherwise, after the walking stage you must still find a way to get back to the vehicle. A two-car shuttle works in some cases; in others, booking a driver is simpler. Park only with the landowner’s permission and without obstructing local traffic.

Luggage and Storage

Some guesthouses can help move a bag to the next stage, but the service depends on the area and your arrangement. Confirm the price, delivery time, and how the luggage will be labeled. Always carry money, documents, water, medication, and a warm layer: reduce weight only by removing nonessential items. If the delivery is delayed, you will still have everything you need.

Luggage lockers are available at major transport hubs, but small bus stations may not have them. Leave belongings only after receiving official confirmation from a member of staff. If you plan to return several days later, photograph the luggage and save the storage facility’s contact details. Find out about the lack of lockers at a small station before bringing unnecessary items there.

If you have an international flight immediately after the trail, leave a generous time margin. A connection, storm, or roadworks may delay your return. Spending a night in a large town before the flight reduces the risk of missing it. You can use the time to dry your belongings, pack your backpack, and check your documents.

Your travel insurance must cover the hiking route and elevation. Save the policy number and claim procedure offline. The information will be close at hand in the event of a transport delay or medical emergency.

Before traveling, check current trail access, weather, permits, transport changes, and closures. If one journey changes, the exits you marked in advance will help you rebuild the next stage. You can then continue with the conditions on the ground in mind.
