Saklıkent is a narrow canyon with cold water and an equipped section of trail. The depth of the current and the distance open to visitors vary by season, so assess the conditions when you reach the entrance. Suitable footwear and a willingness to turn back will help you explore the permitted part of the gorge safely.

What to Expect at the Entrance
Past the ticket booths, a walkway follows the canyon wall to the place where visitors cross the current. From there, the depth and difficulty depend on the season. Part of the gorge may close during high water. Follow the decisions of the site management and rescuers without argument: conditions farther upstream are not visible from the entrance.
Restaurants and rest areas stand beside the river. The site is crowded at popular times, and part of your visit may be spent waiting in line. Arriving early makes the first section more peaceful. If you plan to visit other places after the canyon, waiting at the entrance will reduce the time available for them.
Clothing and Gear
Wear closed water shoes with grippy soles that stay on your feet while crossing the current. The water can easily pull off flip-flops, while sharp stones can cut bare feet. Keep your phone and documents in a waterproof bag secured to your body throughout the water crossing. Clothing should dry quickly. Assess the conditions with particular care if a child is with you.
- water shoes that fasten securely, since loose footwear can easily come off in the current;
- a small dry bag and as few valuables as possible;
- dry clothes and a towel for the return, so you can warm up more quickly after leaving the cold riverbed;
- drinking water despite the cool air in the gorge, since you will also need it after crossing the riverbed;
- sun protection for the exposed ground near the entrance, where the sun is overhead again before you reach the walkway.
The Main Risk: Flash Flooding
A thunderstorm in the mountains can raise the current sharply even when the sky above the entrance is clear. Before your trip, check the forecast for the entire catchment feeding the gorge, as well as official warnings and the route’s status. If it rains, you hear the roar of water, the current turns muddy, or the level rises, return to the exit immediately. A narrow canyon has few safe places above the water. At the first sign of a change in the current, the route back may still be open.
How to Move
Check that each stone is stable before transferring your weight onto it. Follow only the permitted route, without climbing the wall or bypassing closures. Set the distance according to the least capable member of the group. You will also need energy for the return over the same slippery footholds.
Traveling from Kaş or Kalkan
You can reach Saklıkent by car, seasonal public transport, or an organized excursion. Check the timetable and road conditions before leaving. If you want to see nearby ruins or a beach after the gorge, leave several hours free. Once out of the water, you will need time to change clothes, wait, and travel. Even a short transport delay can shift the rest of the day’s schedule.
Who the Route Is Suitable For
The equipped section is accessible to many visitors when the walkway is open and dry. Entering the riverbed requires good balance and tolerance of cold water. Every step on the wet stones calls for a secure foothold. People with joint injuries, limited mobility, or cardiovascular conditions should discuss the exertion with a medical professional and remain in the safe viewing area. The walkway lets you see the beginning of the gorge without stepping onto the slippery stones of the riverbed.
Groups with children should assess the conditions on site and follow the staff’s instructions. A child should never walk alone in the current, even if the equipped section near the entrance seemed easy to the group. The canyon is often unsuitable for pets because of the noise, water, and crowds. Check the current entry rules for animals in advance.
After leaving the water, let your feet warm up and change out of wet clothing, especially on a cool day: the water in the canyon remains cold even in summer. Rinse scratches with clean water and cover them. Do not take risks to recover an item carried away by the current. Ask the staff, who know the riverbed and current conditions, for help.
Saklıkent makes an impression through its sudden change in atmosphere. Outside, the air is dry and bright; inside, you hear water and echoes. Sunlight forms a narrow band on the rock between the high walls. Respect for the current lets you see the gorge without unnecessary risk.
